The Fundamentals of Caring
If you’re looking for a warm movie on a cold winter evening, you should definitely watch Rob Burnett’s ‘The Fundamentals of Caring’. Distributed by Netflix Inc., The Fundamentals of Caring stars the F.R.I.E.N.D.S star, Paul Rudd as Ben, a retired writer who is coping with the abrupt death of his son and a pending divorce. The movie starts with Ben taking a course on becoming a certified Care-Giver. The fundamentals of care-giving are cut down to an acronym, according to the course, that is
ALOHA- Ask, Listen, Observe, Help, Ask Again.
But Paul Rudd’s Ben realizes that taking of care of someone cannot be cut short to an acronym when he meets Trevor, an eighteen-year-old boy diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, played by Craig Roberts.
Based on Jonathan Evison’s book The Revised Fundamentals of Caring, Trevor, in this movie, is glued to his wheelchair and cannot use his legs, he is shown as a cynical boy who has ‘a unique sense of humor’and a weird fascination for The Deepest Pit In The World and other roadside attractions like the World’s Biggest Bovine. TFOC talks about living life to your fullest even when odds defy you.
Ben and Trevor’s road trip is one of the most beautiful road trips in Hollywood; filled with laughter and tears, this movie is perfect for you if you are looking for something that is not action packed with a million dollar CGI.
The journey of the two from a living room and a park to the wide stretches of the country roads meets with Selena Gomez’s Dot who is headed to Denver to start a fresh life after her mother passed away. Trevor and Dot’s low-key romance lightens up the entire movie by giving us the teeny tiny bit of what we call teen romance, but in a much better way. The movie is a rollercoaster of emotions, with a long road and a destination; as we meet new characters along the road with Ben and Trevor, our journey becomes worthwhile.
If you want to spend your cold evenings right, just log in to Netflix and watch The Fundamentals of Caring and if you don’t have a Netflix subscription then… hmm… jugaad karlo merey dost!
